A special election for the vacant 4th State House District will be held June 4.

The seat, which covers parts of Hartford's South End and downtown, became vacant when three-term Democratic incumbent Angel Arce resigned last month.

Three candidates are contesting the seat.

They include two Democrats, Julio Concepcion, the Hartford City Council majority leader, and Jessica Inacio, his former aide.

Concepcion is the Democrats' endorsed candidate. Inacio petitioned her way onto the ballot.

Hartford police detective Bryan Nelson was endorsed by the Republican Party.

A fourth candidate, Kennard Ray, was disqualified from running because of a paperwork error with his filing.

The winner of the June 4 special election will face a new campaign for the seat, with a primary in August and the general election in November.
