Online retailer Amazon will open a new 855,000-square-foot fulfillment center in North Haven, creating about 1,800 jobs.

"That's a testament to their commitment to Connecticut by expanding their presence here."
Amazon currently has a fulfillment center in Windsor and a sorting center in Wallingford, which employ almost 2,000 workers.
Amazon expects to create at least 1,500 full-time positions in North Haven, with that number increasing to over 1,800 during peak periods like the holiday season.
Jobs in the new state-of-the-art center will offer wages 30% higher than traditional retail jobs, and include health insurance, disability insurance, retirement savings plans, and company stock.
"We've found an abundance of talent in Connecticut's workforce, and we are so happy to have this opportunity to expand in the state to serve customers,” Akash Chauhan, Amazon's vice president of North America operations, said in a statement.
Construction of the fulfillment center, located at the site of the former Pratt & Whitney plant on Washington Avenue, is expected to begin later this month.
"It says a lot about Connecticut and the talented workforce Amazon wants access to," Brennan said.
